While we’re working like crazy on your SEO, there are some things you can do to help us get additional traffic to your site.
1. Add your website address to these places, and be sure to use the https:// version of the URL.
a. Signature block in your email.
b. LinkedIn profile.
c. LinkedIn company page.
d. Facebook business page.
e. Twitter account.
f. Instagram account.
g. YouTube account.
h. Any other social media account where you have a profile.
i. Any email marketing app you use to send a newsletter.
j. Your Intuit Find-a-ProAdvisor listing.
k. Membership sites where you have a profile.
l. Your Google My Business listing.
m. Your Bing listing.
n. Your Yelp listing.
o. Any other directory listing you’re in.
p. Any other place online where you or your business is listed. Google your name and/or
business name to see what comes up and where your opportunities are.
2. Use a domain email address instead of gmail, etc. For example, use sandi@yourdomain.com instead of yourdomain@gmail.com . Each time you send an email, you market your domain and not Google’s.
3. If you have printed business cards and letterhead, add your website address to them. Also add it to any other printed client-facing materials such as brochures, flyers, one-sheets, prospect kits, folders, and invoices. In this case, leave off the https:// and www format-wise. Keep it short and simple: yourdomain.com.
4. Add as many credibility-builders and customizations as you can to your site.
a. Privacy policy.
b. Terms of service.
c. Refund policy.
d. Testimonials / client reviews.
e. Case studies.
f. Certification badges.
g. Membership logos.
h. Client login for your portal.
i. Customized bio on About page for owners and employees.
j. Photos of you and your staff.
k. Support section with how-to videos or blog posts.
l. Blog with the most recent page no less than one month old.
m. Organizers / client intake forms.
While this won’t directly help traffic, it will help you make the most out of traffic you do get so that you don’t need to attract thousands of visitors before someone calls you. We call this increasing conversion.
5. Mention your website when you’re networking or marketing or in conversation with just about anyone.
6. If your website is new or newly revised, send an email and/or a postcard to everyone you know to announce your new site launch.
7. Make sure your title tags are set to the type of service and client that you want more of. This is something you would work with us on.
8. If it’s been a while since we have built your site, ask us to do an SEO refresh and we’ll go through your site and look for more opportunities to improve your SEO.
9. Periodically review your SEMrush dashboard. This is for Pro and up packages.
10. Avoid changing your domain name. Older domain names that have been online consistently for years will get more traffic than just about anything else we can do.
11. Renew your domain name for five or more years in advance. Google sees that as going-concern bonus points.
12. If you have a new domain name, be patient. It can take up to a year to start seeing results. But do make sure SEO has been done from the very beginning on your site.
13. Create original content and send it to us to update your site with. It’s great for thought leadership, client education, and SEO, all at once.
14. Add videos to your site to get an instant SEO pickup. Our Diamond package can help if you’re not already on it.
15. On your social media accounts, promote your newest blog posts. Include your website address in social posts any time you can to drive traffic back to your site.
16. Submit original articles you write to news sites that your clients read. Become a guest blogger or columnist and request a link back to your site when they publish your work.
17. Understand that no one knows exactly how the Google ranking algorithm works. Google is also constantly changing it. A few times a year, Google makes major updates. The two most important keys to ranking higher are great content and referral links from other sites.
18. Know that Google is not the only game in town. Microsoft’s search engine is Bing. YouTube is the second largest search engine. On mobile devices, search results are different again. And finally, we continue to speculate as to whether voice search will take off this year.
